J.K. Rowling Apologizes to Fans on the Anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts

It was an emotional tweet and people responded in kind.

May 2nd was the anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts. J.K. Rowling took this time to tweet an important and well-needed apology for killing off an important character.

She said this:

Dobby! The free elf. The elf who loved Harry Potter and ultimately gave up his life to save not only Harry but everybody from the Malfoy Manor that fateful night. Dobby, who died a valiant death, for people he loved, defying his former masters and doing it all even when he was afraid.

He was the bravest elf.

Rowling’s apology was met with so much emotion that Dobby’s death became fresh again. (Why, Jo, why?)

Here’s what people had to say:

  1. 1 It so does!

  2. 2 It was so unpredictable and sudden.

  3. 3 Yours and ours too.

  4. 4 Harry totally makes him promise that.

  5. 5

  6. 6 The eulogy and when Harry digs the grave without magic. *starts sobbing again*

  7. 7 This world need more Dobbys.

  8. 8 Own your inner Dobby!

  9. 9 Farewell, you free and honorable elf.
